Sports Tournaments
Running a sports tournament is a great way for a church or group of churches to build relationships and help generate a sense of community.
A day-long tournament can cover –
- A collection of sports – even a ‘mini-olympics’
- Individual sports such as tennis, squash, badminton or golf
- Team sports such as football, basketball or touch rugby
- Full cricket or football matches
- A traditional school sports day – but for all ages
What’s the best way?
If a church is to run a Sports Tournament it is worth doing it well. Think about –
- Creating a handicap system so even the losers can ‘win’
- Have a prize-giving ceremony with lots of panache and prizes for worst and best
- Having a concluding meal with a guest speaker
- Letting the local media know
- Have the next step in mind - with invitations to hand out
What help is available?
Running a Sports Tournament is mostly common sense. But there is also help avalable from –
