Youth Cafe
Youth Cafés are a new and effective way to build relationships with young people from beyond the church. And there is extentsive free help for you to set one up.
They involve creating a setting where –
- Young people of secondary school age leave the streets to find a relaxed setting to have fun and experience a true sense of community
- On hand are a mix of snacks, drinks, computer games, board games, pool, craft activities, musical instruments, snooker and table tennis
The Youth Café approach was pioneered by Aylesbury Vale Youth for Christ and is becoming widely adopted by churches and others. To see where they are and how fast they are growing click here.
How does a Youth Café link with the Games?
Sport and the 2012 Games are going to be big in the minds of young adults over the coming months. This gives the opportunity to add a Games dimension to a café and so create a Café 2012
This can be by –
- Decking out the venue with sports posters, sports kit and so on
- Showing key events or re-runs on tv screens
- Running suitable indoor and outdoor sport competitions
- Organising other competitions including computer games and more
- Linking your café to other projects in your community such as festivals
