Norfolk may have mini-Olympics 'taster' next Summer

Norfolk may hold its own mini-Olympics next Summer – giving churches an early chance to engage their community through sports.

The mini-Olympics is the brainchild of West Norfolk Sports Council and the King’s Lynn-Emmerich Twinning Club. They see it as a way to celebrate the run-up to the real Olympics and to strengthen international links.

They have sent invitations to clubs from across Europe – for sports as varied as petanque and softball to compete in the county during June and July, 2012.

The plan is for events to be held across West Norfolk, ideally linked to the route of the official Torch Relay. This will give churches throughout the region the opportunity to support the project and use it to engage with their communities.

West Norfolk Sports Council have the event on their agenda for their meeting on January 24.
