During the autumn of 2009, several of the programme teams started to meet. The communication team is working hard on strategy whilst exciting ideas are flowing from the creative and performing arts team. Partners are coming on board every week, with new sponsor organisations signing up to help us
Another win at Wembley
On July 16th over 300 key leaders from across the Christian community attended our engagement conference. The excellent venue combined with a fast moving and interactive program led to a great experience for all that attended. Our Chairman of trustees, lord Mawhinney explained that the central team were simply the drain cleaners for churches and organisation to get on with the things they felt called to do. David Willson, More Than Gold CEO, unpacked great stories from previous games outreach and encouraged the participants to think big and work together to make the most of this chance of a lifetime.
Wembley Conference announced
The Executive team of More Than Gold are delighted to inform our partner constituency of our key engagement conference. On the 16th of July 2009, Wembley stadium will host the gathering for all key leaders of local churches, organisations, denominations and networks – who are looking to see how they can work with More Than Gold in serving and maximising the opportunity that the games provided the Christian community in 2012. please follow the ‘Join Us’ section on our home page to discover more and reserve your place
Agency gathering
In November 2008 over 50 different Christian organisations and denominational representatives gathered near London for a follow up discussion around the More Than Gold agenda for 2012. Key areas of potential engagement were discussed and many great ideas were generated from several hours of information and discussion. The More Than Gold CEO – David Wilson was also introduced to the group and he shared a number of inspiring stories about that which had been achieved during previous games. The group were informed that the next key milestone for engagement would be the conference at Wembley in the summer of 2009.
CEO announced
The Chairman and trustees of More than Gold are very pleased to announce the appointment of David Wilson as their new CEO. David brings a wealth of experience from his involvement and leadership in previous games including Athens and Sydney. David, from England, has lived all over the world in recent years, currently a resident in Atlanta he will move his family back to England in the summer of 2009.
More than Gold is Launched
Monday 26th February 2007 saw the launch of 'More than Gold', a charitable company creating a partnership of Christian Churches and organisations to serve sport and the community. More Than Gold will build on the experience of the Churches’ support of the 2002 Commonwealth Games and is seeking to serve forthcoming major sporting events.
The Olympics Minister, Rt Hon Tessa Jowell, was present to speak at the launch and to also hear from the Churches their desire to be of service to the thousands of sports men and women and visitors who will attend the various events. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster and Baroness Kathleen Richardson (a former Free Churches Moderator), along with Revd Bill Snelson (General Secretary of Churches Together in England) and Revd Joel Edwards of the Evangelical Alliance, all pledged the support of the Christian community to deliver More Than gold.
The launch event also heard the announcement of Brian Mawhinney as the Chair of the new organisation.
